Default How do i delete layers

How do i delete layers in autocad 2009 when the sign comes up that the layers are being used when they are clearly not. How can i find out what is holding onto my layer & stopping it from going?
I use quick select to select everything on the layer i want to delete. It selects nothing because there is nothing on the layer i want to delete. It's not the current layer, not the 0 layer & it's not used by any xref. how do i delete it?

Default Layer deletion

Hi!!
A simple understanding on this would be, if an object exist in a layer, you would never be able to delete any layers.

So you need to make sure that the layer you intend to delete needs to be empty. hope this will be of some use to you..

Thanks

You may find that although the layer appears to be free of any lines etc, it may be that there is a block on another layer that has something holding it over on that layer.

In short without exploding all blocks in your drawing & moving the items to another layer, you won't be able to erase that layer.

Hope that helps.

this is where the 'never use layer 0 for drawings' sort of rule comes from, if you put all the geometry for your blocks then you dont have this issue
