Helo there

My name is Rashid and I'm 28 years old. I don't know how to say this but after all these years of pondering around and thinking what to do in my next step, I began to realize I had a deep interest in journalism. I take this decision because I felt by being involve in journalism, I can express my sincere views on the world much more fluently and freely. This is my first time here so as I go along, can anyone of you here, those had been in journalism for the past few years or so, can give me the best advice what is the best thing for me to do and tips on how to be a good journalist..? My area of interest that I would like to focus on is on sports and world issues. Hope to hear any positive feedback from you guys around. Be glad to hear any advice or whatsoever. Thanks and take care

Well, the thing to start is to immerse yourself with whats happening, local and international. I suppose you read up. For sports, you can even concentrate on specific ones for now.

And then there's education, learning the basics of good journalistic writing. HArd core journalists say it is a strict science but with a deep heart.

Get an on-hands experience of how a newspaper house work. Get ajob there and start small. Other journalists have started in jobs in these newspaper companies that were completely off-writing tasks. Eventually as they show their eagerness to learn, they climb to the top.

it is also not a bad idea to blog. Here you can practice your writing, style and dedication. You can even gathe ra fanbase this way.

Pardon for the horrible sentences of my last post. I am usually lax with my forum writing. I am also a bit rusty. Forgive me.

For starting to polish your English, I will always advice to start with the basics with the asisstanc eof the best. You do not need to practice with any site, software or program. What it takes is initiative and drive. i always believe in immersion.

Watch English and american shows because they will teach you common expressions. For journalistic style and sense, always look up to the best papers ike Chicago Times or the New York post and even the Wall Street Journal. As your best weapon in journalistic writing, buy a STYLEBOOK.

A stylebook is a set of guidelines and writing rules for a newspaper. Each established paper often has one. The best ones publish them to help beginning journalists like you. The Associated Press Stylebook is well-known.

As a second weapon, get The Elements of Style by Strunk and White. This little book looks deceiving. It will be the best help in writing that you can get.

Hi!

It really depends on what kind of journalism you want to go into.

Newspaper journalism usually starts out by getting a job in one. A beat reporter or a simple job inside one will get you the connections you need so you could get your stories published someday.

Broadcast journalism is also similar. You could start out as a reporter or writer for a station. Just get in. Know how the whole process works.

If your forte is journalism by form of videos or documentaries, you can start by making your own and pushing them into recognition by way of contests.

Web journalism is a different matter. Most TV stations already have websites that caters the market. If you want, you could make a blog or website where you could put up the results of your writing. When applying for jobs or for higher positions in the journalism world, mention this and it could help you a lot.

Lots of luck!
