i quite often use a speedlite, an umbrella, a tripod and a remote trigger
you can use one speedlight and and you will get a similar outcome in a light room and with a bit of practice as a low end studio kit. Buy umbrellas from ebay for £5 each you can buy a cheap trigger for like £20 or get a canon one for £70 .You wont be disapoointed its well worth the investment to get some remote triggers you can get really creative with light and you will use it in all situations, not just portait work (well i do anyway....) Mount the flash on the tripod using the shoe and turn the head 180degrees round and shoot into the umbrella, Job done! The only drawback is your speedlite will prob be on full power (or close to it) so you may go through a couple of sets of batteries, and you may experience slow recycle times, but still if its just for one shoot its prob the most econmical thing to do. Hope ths helps |
