Default hello, I'm asking for help finding an assistant job

hello there im looking for a job as an assistant photographer, ive tried so many firm's, mags, news rags, webzenes.... etc...

I have some experience. I have been an underwater photographer, I do freelance in the music industry, family portraits and more. I cant seem to land a job as a photographer or an assistant.

Any contacts, advice, or kind words would be very welcome.

thank you for reading,
garrett

Hi Garrett,

Well it sounds like you are doing all the right things, just keep plugging away! You obviously have a passion for your subject and that is what really matters, good things come to those who wait

Some suggestions...

1. Keep up the music and portrait work, send the music photos to the right mags and online publications and work will be accepted eventually. Never give up trying.

2. Use the Yellow Pages and our freelance directory to find photographers in your area and ask if they need a hand. Often doing free work will help make contacts and put you in the front running when it comes to jobs being available.

3. Today was apparently the most depressing day of the year so don't feel bad about feeling like things are not going the way you would like - blame the seasons! Keep plugging away and something will happen for you I am sure.

How old are you by the way? Obviously if you are young then helping local photographers is a better prospect than if you have a mortgage and mouths to feed...

Best wishes and good luck!

Hi Garrett,

Could you give me any more info on how you got into freelance photography in the music industry. I'm interested in it as a hobbie more than anything.

I mean can you just turn up at shows with your camera or do you need some kind of special press pass, if so are these expensive?

Thanking you in advance
Paul

Hi there,
I assisted several photographers for two years and am now working as a professional press photographer in the area, there is a photographer in Reading that I worked with briefly which might need help, he's very good and does varied & interesting work.
His name is Matt Wain - You can do a search on Google and send him an email
Hope that helps
Clare
