Hi I've been doing freelance photography for about 8 months and was thinking of going to college or uni but I'm not sure as to how worthwhile it will be and at 35 feel life is a bit short to be doing 3 years study for nothing so can any one give me some tips

hey im 20 years old and i feel like i cnt get on my own quick enought lol i want to start my own business but the thing is i did emedia graphics design at college and i did a year learning about photography and i already knew the things they were teaching so my advice to you is get out there get your name heard and spread your skills i know alot of really good photographers that said going to college was crap and a waste of time so aslong as your good enought, your getting places! good luck and i hope i made since of my randomness lol best of luck simple_touch

Hell yeah, just get out there and do it. Best way to learn. Just make sure you set aside plenty of time to study, develop new techniques, read voraciously and develop as a photographer, and don't ever be content with what you know!

By going to College or University for the type of things you want to learn is pointless unless you don't know key techniques. However, freelancing for 8 months; I'm pretty sure you already know them.
At University or College they only teach you techniques and mark you on what they like and that's not what photography is about; or art for that matter. It's all about your portfolio and what you capture. Get out your camera and start snapping everything and anything that inspires you. When showing your portfolio don't be discouraged if someone doesn't like it. You can't capture 'right' images. You can only improve the techniques you use to capture an image. |
