I have a potential new client based in Romania / Malta and I was wondering if there was anything I need to consider before working with them. I was wondering if I need proof of identification or anything like that?

Hoping someone can help me or put me in the right direction!

    Thank you

    Hello Lisa,

If you doubt they are a legitimate business then you should ask for proof of identity of the business/client.

If you need to know about the tax side of things, you might want to get in touch with a Freelancer Accountant to see if they can help.

I can help with the tax side of things, but I'm not sure on what due diligence you ought to do on this potential client (clearly you need to do some checks to ensure that everything appears legit.). Is the potential client a company or an individual? If it's the former, they should be able to provide you with a company number, etc.
