    Hi all,

I am trying to learn about Wordpress, at the moment I have just set up a test blog, and I want to fully customize it to match my website.

Can this only be done if you download wordpress, and not if you use their hosted version?

    Thanks in advance

Short answer: yes, you need the downloaded version.

The wordpress.com hosted blogs only allow you to choose from some pre-set templates, though I think you can pay a small fee to customize the CSS (I've never done that so can't say exactly how much freedom it gives you).

Self-hosted wordpress.org blogs are what you want, you can do literally anything that takes your fancy with these. Set up a local server (if you just need something that works straight away I highly recommend Wampserver ) and you can do all your testing and development right there on your computer without needing to set up a live website and faff around editing things via FTP.
