I'm currently employed full-time but since April this year have done quite a bit of freelance work in the evening and at weekends to save money to go abroad.

In October i'm leaving my job  and going to South America for 9 months to take photographs for a coffee table style book about Surfing and write a guide to Kitesurfing in South America.

I've never been totally freelance before and seeing as i will be out of the country till next summer I am looking for help completing a Tax return and advice about if and how I can claim my expenses abroad seeing as the trip will be work orientated - can i claim for flights? food? accomdation? etc.

Whether i can or can't claim expenses i just want to speak to someone about completing a tax return for this year whilst being on the other side of the world.

I'd also like some help seeing as, being full time till now, i've already paid some tax for this year.

    Help!

    Hi Brian

    Welcome to the forum!

Probably best that you speak to an accountant specialising in freelancers. A few advertise on this site if you take a look to the right of this post and also elsewhere on the main Freelance UK site.

Good luck with the travels, we'd love to see the pics on your return!

    Hi Brian,

Ingrid's right -- thanks for the link to the HMRC, as it helped me, too. Let me know if you have some good recommendations for accountants specialising in freelancers (I've recently been searching after my friend showed me some stats on actual accountant salary -- I'm hoping to find someone cheaper, but they should have good knowledge about us freelancers).

    Have a great trip,

    Ben
