Hi, does anyone know tthe maximum duration of contract you can have at an individual company before either having to leave or go PAYE?

    Cheers

    Hi Chris

It may well depend on the contract you have with the person(s) whose premises you work on. Here's a useful leaflet put out by HMRC: Employed or Self-Employed

It comes down to how much autonomy you have in your day to day working. Hope that helps a bit :)

    Thanks

Thanks SharpClause. I had a scoot through that leaflet but it doesn't really help to be honest. I work as a TV producer going from contract to contract company to company on a freelance basis & it is my understanding that I can't work in one place for more than 6-9 months continuously. It is very rare to be offered staff job at an indie TV company these days but I'd like to stay where I am for a while longer but remain freelance. Is there an actual tax/legal cut off period after which I have to leave?

    Hi Chris

What makes you think you can't stay in one place longer than 6/9 months? IR35? If so being caught by IR35 depends on many factors - how integrated you are with the company you work for, not really the time you spend somewhere.
