Information please!
Hi,
I'm an English teacher and I have a student who quite frankly hates school and can't wait to leave; he's in his final year. I do know that his one love is photography and that he is already being paid for some of his work. However, he still has to attend class and I figured the only way to engage him is to use photography related material. So...
What type of writing do you have to do? Captions perhaps? Do you have to fill in reports of any kind? Does it depend upon whether you're working for a newspaper, magazine or posting online? Are there forms that you have to send in with your photographs?
I basically need anything that involves the use of English but ties in with his interest.
Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps encourage him to cover an event photographically but accompany the images with a report? Im a full time Press Photographer - Generally I find that there is very little requirement for written english within the job although it is important to be able to caption photographs acurately (peoples names) otherwise it does lead to complaints etc. When going for a job 80% will be down to the portfolio and the rest personality and organisational skills!

When filing to an agency, you need to caption the images very carefully. One thing that needs to be insured is that keywords are used in the caption, so that when papers/magazines search for them on either databases or newswires they come up top. It can sometimes be quite a task, as you have to include all the key info such as location, time, date, photographer etc but it needs to read smoothly... Perhaps you could get your student to practice this on some of his shots?
