Invoicing per word - submitted or edited

    Does anyone have any comments/advice on how they deal with a client's edits when charging on a per word basis.

    If you submit an article of 2,000 words and the client then edits this down to 1,000 words and publishes it would you charge for the initial 2,000? or just 1,000? or somewhere in between?

    Obviously the reasons for those edits can vary greatly, as will the initial brief, but any general thoughts would be great to hear.

    Im presuming the client has given no indication of any word limit prior.
