    Have you tried having a look through our Freelance Alliance directory? http://www.freelanceuk.com/find-a-freelancer/

    You can search for other freelancers in your area with the relevant skills, and also look through their portfolio of work if they have uploaded it.

    This is absolutely true you should check the portfolio it plays an important role. Portfolio should be strong. I always prefer to work with the client who have Digital Signatures to sign contract. It helps you to avoid the online scams. Anyways this link is really helpful.
