What sort of topics have you covered? got any links?

Well all my Snippets are taken from past life and general observations, they get published on the BBC sites weekly news paper, called The Post. Along with some other budding writers who submit various type's of articles.

I'm not a writer so I'm hoping someone else can chip in here. From a business point of view what do you want to do longer term? Do you want to write for certain publications or a specialised field? I'm just thinking you could start slanting your writing or pick out those articles already written that fit that theme to start seeing what take up is in related publications, so using it as stepping stones as you'll then have published work to take you on to where you really want to be. Are there any local magazines that fit with the personality of what you write, for an easy hit you could target those? In my local city there is a sort of 'local life' rag, observational/humorous snippets about the local area might work well there.

Basically it's hard to know which other publications might republish your work if I don't know what you've already written, but I'd assume getting your work published in local or niche publications has to be considered a first step to get your work in print and from there you can aim higher?

Anyone else got any bright ideas?

Best of luck anyway, let us know how you get on. Ooh and if you do start to email snippets of work to local pubs speculatively, stick a copyright symbol on the bottom and be very clear there would be a fee involved if they want to republish!

Thanks for that, I came in here to see if anyone could advise me on where to send my writings to. I sent away a couple of them to magazines that were advertising for stories, but they never made the grade?
Still I expected that, but I thought if I could a contact that could put me on the right track.
I am only doing this, as some of the folk on that BBC site encouraged me to go for it, so here is hoping. Thanks for your advice and help, much appreciated.

That's a shame, did they tell you why? Don't let them get off that easily! A contact is valuable, perhaps you can try and get a rapport going (without turning into a stalker!), what do they want? was it the topic or the style of writing that didn't quite gel with them? Can you have a bit of guidance and have another stab..

Thanks for that, it was a new magazine being launched and was looking for short stories to be sent in to them. I will just keep searching the web until I find a site where I can get the information I need.
In the mean time I will keep writing my Snippets for the BBC web site, I have around 150 of them now. Thanks for your interest and posts, they kept me popping back in here every so often.
