Non compete clause

Hello all, I did some work for a company A who had a contract to build a website for company B. I am getting paid in full for my work but the guy wants me to sign a non-compete agreement for a reasonable time. I want to know if this is advisable, and if so for long should I agree for? Company B was the one who recommended me in the first place for all technical work as there was a few part to the project and I worked on the website. I am happy to sign it but not sure for how long should I agree for. Any advice would be great please. Thank you

If the client introduced you to the supplier I'd be tempted to decline it anyway. However, if you think it makes life easier perhaps 3 months is reasonable.

Working with signed document is helpful. But sign agreement for short time. You can extend it if you want to work more with the company.

These things can be tricky if they are too broad - make sure it at least specifies the particular industry sector or product that you're not allowed to compete in. I would also look to add a clause that you can still work for company B in the meantime, as that's an existing relationship. 3 months seems reasonable to me too. Good luck!
