Self employed & working for One Employer
Hi
I have been working freelance (self employed) since September so I am in my 6th month.
Things have been good and have had a consistent flow of work. But All of this work has been from one company. I am working at their office on the usual 9 till 5 day, 5 days a week. At the moment I see no end to the work.
My questions are.
1 - What are the laws about working for one person. I know this is an issue.
2 - Is this more of an issue for me or for my employer?
Any help will be great.

Messages count : 27Likes count : 0Registration : 17 November 2009This sounds like the dreaded "IR35" rearing its head, although I must admit that I haven't paid much attention to it so far. If you click on "Tax & Legal" in the column which is to my right as I write (although on some pages it seems to be on the left!) you'll come to all sorts of links about it which may help. I think that the gist of the legislation is that if you're a freelance working full-time solely for one employer, then HMRC tend to look at it as a tax dodge by your employer to avoid treating you as an employee, paying NI contributions and so on.
